Strong Start to 2011!

Monday, January, 3, 2011
Stock Market Commentary:

The major US averages rallied smartly on Monday and hit new recovery highs after spending a few weeks in a tight trading range. Heretofore, market internals remain healthy evidenced by broad leadership, favorable volume patterns, a rising advance/decline line, and a healthy number of new highs on both major exchanges.

ISM Mfg Data is Strong:

Stocks roared on Monday after the ISM Manufacturing index rose in December and jumped to the fastest pace in 7-months. The ISM’s mfg index rose to 57 last month from 56.6 in November. It is important to note that readings over 50 indicate expansion while readings below 50 indicate contraction. Elsewhere, it was also encouraging to see inflation in China ease which helped allay pressure on China to curb their red-hot economy. It was also healthy to see a slew of high ranked leaders rally after shallow pullbacks towards support (i.e. important moving averages).

Market Action- Market In Confirmed Rally Week 19

It is encouraging to see the bulls show up in November and defend the 50 DMA lines for the major averages. The market remains in a confirmed rally until those levels are breached. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite and small-cap Russell 2000 indexes continue to lead evidenced by their shallow correction and strong recovery. However, it is important to note that stocks are a bit extended here and a pullback of some sort (back to the 50 DMA lines) would do wonders to restore the health of this bull market. Put simply, stocks are strong. Trade accordingly. If you are looking for specific high ranked ideas, please contact us for more information.

At this point, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NYSE Composite Index have traded above resistance at their long term 200-day moving average (DMA) lines and recent chart highs. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite, benchmark S&P 500, and small-cap Russell 2000 index remain slightly below their recent chart highs. However, the fact that all of the major averages are trading above their respective 2-month downward trendlines bodes well for this five week rally. In order for a new leg higher to begin, all the major averages must close and remain above their respective resistance levels. Remember that the window remains open for for high-ranked stocks to be accumulated when they trigger fresh technical buy signals. Trade accordingly.

    Market Outlook- New Rally Confirmed!
The major averages confirmed their latest rally attempt on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 which was the 11th day of their latest rally attempt. This action suggests a subtle and bullish shift may be on the horizon. It is important to note that all major rallies in history began with a FTD however not every FTD leads to a new rally (i.e. several FTD fail). In addition, it is important to note that the major averages still are under pressure as they are all trading below their longer and shorter term moving averages (50 and 200 DMA lines) and are all negative year-to-date. Our longstanding clients/readers know, we like to filter out the noise and focus on what matters most: market action. This rally will fail if/when August’s lows are breached. • Stocks Tank On Tepid Jobs Report; Euro Plunges To A New Multi-Year Low!

The author of “How To Make Money In Stocks”, the book that explains the fact-based investment system, has observed in the past that a market should not be considered to be in “healthy” shape unless at least 2 of the 3 major averages are trading above their rising 200-day moving average (DMA) lines. Only the Nasdaq Composite Index is currently above its long-term average, meanwhile the S&P 500 and Dow are encountering resistance. It would be very encouraging to see a proper follow-through-day (FTD) emerge for the benchmark S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average to offer additional confirmation of a hearty new rally. Yet, acknowledging that we have a new confirmed rally based on the latest market improvements, the window is now considered to be open again to begin buying high-ranked stocks that trigger new technical buy signals but caution is sometimes the better part of valor.
