Gold & Silver Fall In Heavy Trade

Wednesday, December 8, 2010
Stock Market Commentary:

It was a quiet day on Wall Street as gold and silver plunged in heavy trade. At this point, the key is to watch the US dollar as a good gauge of investors’ collective appetite for risk. In the future, to avoid any confusion, we are no longer going to use outside resources to label, instead focus on what has worked exceptionally well for us over 7 years, our own analysis. A popular outside source changed their label on Friday to Market in a confirmed rally, without a proper FTD emerging. This is bizarre and frankly plain irresponsible. From our standpoint, the rally that began on September 1, 2010 is still intact and we said that in our commentary on November 16, 2010 when the outside source said the rally ended –Full Story here. However, we changed it to be inline with them but that was clearly a mistake. If anyone has any questions about this, please feel free to fill out our contact form and we will be happy to address it in more detail.
Gold & Silver Falls
Overnight, gold and silver plunged after the US dollar edged higher and traders were concerned that China would raise rates to curb their red-hot economy. However, the stock market remains resilient, evidenced by the fact that it simply refuses to fall. This is the real story that we would like you to focus on.

Market Action- Market In Confirmed Rally Week 15

It is encouraging to see the bulls show up and defend the 50 DMA lines for the major averages. The market remains in a confirmed rally until those levels are breached. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite and small-cap Russell 2000 indexes continue to lead evidenced by their shallow correction and strong recovery. Put simply, stocks are strong. Trade accordingly.

Market Outlook- Market In A Confirmed Rally
From our point of view, the market is back in a confirmed rally now that all the major averages are back above their respective 50 DMA lines and downward trendlines. Since the beginning of May, we have urged caution as the major averages and a host of commodities began selling off. However, the fact that the pullback was shallow and the market found support at its 50 DMA line in late May, suggests higher, not lower, prices lie ahead. The next level of resistance is the 2011 highs. If you are looking for specific help navigating this market, please contact us for more information.

Market Outlook- Market In A Confirmed Uptrend:
The last week of June’s strong action suggests the market is back in a confirmed rally. As our longstanding clients/readers know, we like to filter out the noise and focus on what matters most: market action. That said, the action remains bullish until the major averages and leading stocks violate their respective 50 DMA lines. Until then, the market deserves the bullish benefit of the doubt. Barring some unforeseen event, investors will likely be focusing on the jobs market this week and then spend the rest of the month focusing on the latest round of economic and Q2 earnings data. • Stocks End Mixed As Investors Digest A Slew Of Data

On Wednesday, the major averages closed near important resistance levels as leading stocks were mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and benchmark S&P 500 index closed below 10,500 and 1,115, their respective resistance levels. The Nasdaq composite closed just above 2200 which has served as an important level of resistance for the tech heavy index in recent months.
At this point, the action remains healthy as long as the major averages remain above their respective 50-day moving average lines. So far the market has held up rather nicely to the slew of economic data that was released this week. As long as this action continues, the major averages deserve the bullish benefit of the doubt.
